The Art of Extractionism

Worlds within your own exist.

Through the lens of my camera, I bridge the gap between abstraction and reality.

In contrast with many abstract paintings, the images I produce are about the concentration of the camera’s viewfinder on the real world, rather than the application of medium onto the studio canvas.

My work is about seeing the everyday in an artistic way; to see that nature is the most creative entity. The images all reflect careful studies of light, shadow, texture, form, materiality, color, and most importantly, composition.

Except for a possible re-orientation when displaying, nothing is superficially done to distort the imagery.

No filters are used on the camera lens, the subject matter is not physically altered, and nothing is tweaked in the digital printing process. My goal is to present the viewer with what existed when I discovered it with my own eyes.

The camera allows for the abstraction of reality, simply through the extraction of an area from its context.

In other words, the compositions are created out of chaos and captured by consciousness. Nature and its forces are the artists at work and whether you recognize the source of the imagery, depends on how you see your own world.
